'Cash mobs' gather to support local businesses!

You've heard of "flash mobs." Now "cash mobs" are being organized to get people shopping at locally own businesses, instead of chain stores.

Today was the first day "cash mobs" were organized. Some 200 mobs in the United States and Europe emerged, with each participant spending at least $20.

Is this a great idea? Or is it a futile attempt to stave off the inevitable take-over of retail by mega-giant corporations?
