First Detroit Area Meetup
Resistance & Enlightenment Cease Fire for Beer Summit
Thursday Dec. 27
Tonight we had an epic meetup as archrivals from both factions met for the first time over a beer.
Detroits two biggest rivals...portalyst (me) and Matrix78 put down our scanners to share a beer.
Enlightenment Detroit had just had Operation Green Snow during a major midwest blizzard wiping out a resistance stronghold.. you green scum!
Taking a break from the weather we all got together at One-Eyed Bettys in Ferndale Michigan to share our Ingress stories over a beer. Even as I type this I am missing a good story. Reminiscing about battles fought, pranks played, and bumping into each other at portals. This is where the good natured banter back and forth on COMM during battles paid off, little did we know as the battle took place we were building such great friendships on the other side.
Haha right now they are discussing how it takes a village to raise an L1...very true!! We also discussed if we should designate portal farms for each team that would be a "No Fly Zone".
I look at Sal, now an L4 and can remember being with him his first night out as an L1 with the group and he made L2 that night, soon he'll be an L5. Helping your teammates advance is in everyone's best interest and builds friendships. Those first nights out you get to know one another and later when you see them on COMM it's nice to be able to put a face to the name on COMM and talk to them when they are out at the same time as you, it also gives you one more person you can call when you need a portal upgraded or help destroying a portal.
When Enlightenment was was hopelessly outnumbered and I had some extra invites, I decided it would be more fun for both sides if I gave them to an enlightenment member instead of someone in my own resistance faction. I joked when I gave them to them that it was just getting to be too easy to wipe the map with them every night. They have continued to grow their ranks and now offer us bigger challenge, which led to Operation Green Snow being organized against us and waking us up to the fact we now have a formidable enemy in our midst. This week's developments in the Ingress story show us these summits might be needed more often if another faction were to rise, or ADA gets out of control and we have to work together to defeat her.
