It seems that the natural rate of decay of untended Portals has increased.

It seems that the natural rate of decay of untended Portals has increased. If left uncharged, a Portal will now decay in about 7 days instead of 10 days.   #ingress

  1. Which was a complete and unnecessary use of resources by Niantic (in my opinion) due to active turn-over rate between factions.

Frankly, I think they should be focusing on purpose of MU count, accuracy of MU count, balance for new players, balance of faction, and balance of attack/defense.
But what do I know?  I'm just a beta tester.

  2. I always thought that L1 resos on a portal seemed to last longer than that of higher level ones. Or does it have to do with the portal level?

  3. Kilo G  - Negative on both counts.  It's based off percentages.  So while it may look like some resos are going faster than others, if you wait until complete decay, you'll see that they fully decay at the same time.

  4. Andres Sulleiro  - Thanks,.  That's something else I want to add to my previous "rant' list.  XM is drained in a completely unbalanced manner.  Which is why I recommended to the devs that (in order to give mu fields a purpose) standing under a field of your faction will slowly regenerate your XM...  say .1% every 15 minutes.  It's enough to help but not so much that it makes people want to just sit there until full on XM.
Plus, it would make field battles more interesting because you're going to want to defend a field that sits over your own home... and opposers are going to want to destroy that field.
Right now, fields are completely pointless apart from the "pretty".

  5. Andres Sulleiro create a field and begin recruiting from within it. Maybe the control field will help influence some would be recruits.

  6. I'm definitely defending my portals with Weeping Angels from now on! Don't Blink!

  7. Jeremy Ellwood the last thing anyone wants is some other player triangulating where they reside.

  8. Kilo G  - It already happens... but that's neither here nor there.  The fact is if you see a field of the opposing faction, for safety's sake, it would behoove you to destroy that field to keep any other resistance who live under that field from getting auto-regeneration.

  9. What I am recommending doesn't make it any easier to triangulate someone's location.  It's basically exactly what you see now, but puts in place that uncertainty you want your opposition to have.

  10. Jeremy Ellwood glad to know you chose the right side.

  11. Kilo G  - Not sure if I am to take that as a compliment or sarcasm.  LOL...

  12. Where I am there is not so much turnover, and the increased decay makes us go out and tend our portals more.

  13. But if there's not so much turn over, then what do you have to tend?  Hack them while they're your color, recharge them if you want, or let them decay and rebuild them for AP.
This 7 day decay actually changes things less for people who don't have high turn over.

    EDIT:
I guess I just think the resources should have been focused on fixing problems in the game instead of things that are completely moot and pointless to game play.

  14. I have a feeling that Niantic wants all players to be high level. This recent changes are meant to help lower level players. The faster xm respawn, decreased xm damage from portal during attack, and now this. All the changes just to make destroying easier. So, lower levels can progress quickly.

All this changes discourage people to build high level portals. Why would you assemble players to build level 7 or 8 portals, which takes a lot of efforts, and then wiped out by single player in minutes. That's beyond my imagination, how could Ingress designed like that.

There must be a good reason. They want to shorten the gap between low level and high level. Level 8 will be the new level 1.

Hopefully people are not quitting because this game was amazing. I read many battle reports, epic coordination to build level 8 portals, but those can be just history.

  15. What may seem pointless now, could be for what is to come...

  16. I could agree with that, Kilo G ... but with the recent changes that have been made overall, it looks like they are regressing... not out in the field ingressing.
I have been close with the progress and have actually had private discussions with 2 devs in the past and have tried to stay objective and only state to them what I have seen and heard from posts and others regionally...  and they are doing the opposite.

  17. Alrighty.  But again, let it be on record as me saying I think it is a waste of time and resources that could have been used to fix known problems and imbalances.  :)
    I'll leave it at that.
