Wonder what it would look like if #2012da14 hit the Earth?
Look no further than Meteor Crater, in Northern Arizona!
Estimates place the size of the object that hit about 50,000 years ago at around 50 meters - roughly the same size as 2012DA14. The crater is over a kilometer wide, and about half a kilometer deep.

Ok all these crater references starting to make me a little paranoid
ReplyDeleteTrue story, there is a Subway store there at the crater.
ReplyDeleteThis pic reminded me of the book "The war of the worlds" by H.G. Wells.
ReplyDeleteDA14 is as large as half a football stadium traveling 8 times the speed of a bullet and would have an estimated impact 180 times as powerful as the nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
ReplyDeleteIt will pass. This time.
Comforting, no?
"You and I are but actors on the stage, having their hour..."
The website for the crater says it was like 20 million tons of TNT going off. That's equivalent to 40,000,000,000 lbs of TNT! I DEF wouldn't want to be around for that.
ReplyDeleteTo create a crater on this size, the blast would have looked bigger than the largest hydrogen bomb explosions of the atomic testing era.
ReplyDeleteThere also a very hard to get to portal there, from what im told
ReplyDeleteVery true
ReplyDeleteSomething that size hitting the earth would be an extinction level event.
ReplyDeleteI've been there and our mapping team walked it in street view.
ReplyDeleteVery nice people they have apartments for the workers.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to check that out in a while.
ReplyDeleteI don't know much about explosions and blast patterns but I thought as a rule they were normally more circular in shape....This looks more square, isn't that an odd shape for a blast pattern?
ReplyDeleteWhat ever landed here seems like a good UFO landing site.
