Today, we encountered a green field that covered our city of Jacksonville, FL. With a #GoogleNav drive time of 1 hr and 10 minutes, we had just enough time to get to the southernmost field point to catch the last ferry of the day to the island at Ft Matanzas where the portal was located. After a stressed drive down I-95, we made it with 10 minutes to spare....only to find out the last ferry ride was suspended due to inclement weather. Boats were grounded for fear of lightning.
Not used to giving up, Jacksonville Resistance was on it. It began as a joke, to swim across the Intracoastal waterway channel to the island, but quickly progressed into a workable plan. What would normally be too fast of a current was almost ideal, since high tide was just minutes away. There would be a lull in the current, enough time to get to the island and back.
A trip to the nearest convenience store set us back a few dollars, but we came out with two boogie boards, a bag full of ziploc bags, and duct tape... enough to protect body and phones. We were hungry, but we would have celebratory Slurpees later.
The current stopped and the river was calm as it lay in between tides. Agents bigbywolf and SykoticMan entered the water and began the long swim to the island, while I documented and got ready to pick them up downriver. By grasping the dock at the island, they were able to unwrap their phones, ADA the portal, and rewrap their phones for the long swim back. Cheers erupted. They were heroes.
It was to be about an hour and a half more before they could exit the water, though. They couldn't go back South from where they came, because they'd be fighting the current... so they went North, to the Plan B pick-up site. The lull in the current was suddenly gone, so after about an hour of swimming, they suddenly couldn't continue North again due to the water shifting. They began back South, and passed the portal only to come out of the water about the same place where they came in. All was well. We had pushed the limits; about 4-5 miles of swimming in all. Celebratory Slurpees were had. It was a very good day. #ingress #sitrep #ingressfieldreport

And then Awestin Gragg (WrathOfAres)drove a jet ski out, and re-fielded Jacksonville. Jacksonville enlightened agents using technology to stay ahead, and the field remains standing.
