I'm sure many people have heard about the devastating tornadoes that tore through central Illinois on Sunday. Washington, Illinois was hit hardest by this tragedy. A large portion of the town was impacted and over 1000 homes are destroyed. The destruction I have witnessed this week has been numbing. The stories I have heard have been both gut wrenching and inspiring. It has been incredible to see the way that everyone from the surrounding towns and nationally have banded together and pitched in to help this community get their lives back. In our local Ingress community, many have pitched in with vehicles, equipment, donations, time and whatever contributions they can to help those in need.

While Ingress may be just a game, many of us in the local community felt the need to pay our respects to Washington on the game board as well. Since the game began in November, Washington has become a hot spot of sorts in the local game. While generally resistance controlled, it sees quite a bit of activity from both sides. To honor those in Washington, we decided to build a cross faction field over the town. We chose achors that would be as close as possible so there would be no mistaking this was an intentional and coordinated tribute. Many members from both the central Illinois resistance and enlightened were involved in making this field happen. Personal farms and fields were sacrificed for the greater good. You all know who you are. Thank you.

It may just be a game. But it's a game that immerses us in our local towns and communities in an incredible way. The intel map only shows the portals. To look at it, you would never know Washington was any different than it was last Saturday. But in reality, it has been changed forever. This is our tribute. Thank you to all the amazing players, resistance and enlightened, in Central Illinois. It has been a pleasure meeting you all over the last year of this game. Moments like this make me proud to be a part of this community.
