Great work agents!

Great work agents!

Operation ViaDuckett (22/12/2013)

While planning the Duckett Christmas road trip from Palmerston North to Auckland, I decided that no road trip would be complete without a little bit of fielding fun.  One of our primary objectives was to cover our local agents, ensuring their minds would be safe from shaper influence in our absence over Christmas.  So after consulting with some fellow RE, a plan was made to field the majority of the North Island.

As with all good operations, it was not without its mishaps and roadblocks (including a flock of sheep).  However, with a bit of team effort and dedication to the plan, we were able to successfully complete the operation.

I would like to thank all the agents involved in Sundays fielding effort, and all those that provided keys and other gear.  Also, thank you to all those agents who forfeited their own linking plans in support of this operation.

Duckett perspective of operation ViaDuckett (gliss and MrsGliss)

While our normal route to Auckland would take us up the centre of the North Island, for the operation to work we needed to change our route slightly and head north west.  This meant extending our trip of 505 km (approximately 7 hours) to approximately 542 km.  Just before 9am we set off for Whanganui, clearing EN blocking links in Feilding and Ohakea, and jarvising a total of six portals in Bulls and Whanganui.  By 12pm the first lot of fields covering the lower half of the Manawatu were complete, as well as an unexpected field from Whanganui to the top of the South Island.  Links had also been established from Palmerston North, Waikanae and Waipukurau.  Next, we began our journey to Ohakune, where a 3.5km hike up to the Hapuawhenua Viaduct awaited.  Thankfully the viaduct portal had previously been claimed by the Resistance, so some of the links and fields from the west of the North Island were able to be established before our arrival.  From the viaduct, we were able to establish the fields to the south and east of the North Island.  However, one of the fields to the east did not establish despite all links being in place.  Next stop was to create a link from Taumarunui, and then onto Waitomo where we met up with some of the Waikato agents to set up the final fields.  In the mean time, a field was successfully set up between Kerikeri, New Plymouth, and Taumarunui.  Fields had also been established throughout the lower North Island, between the Rimutaka ranges and Palmerston North.  In total, about 37 fields were created over 12 hours.  Finally, at 1am we arrived at our destination, 16 hours after we had left Palmerston North.

Things I learnt…

 - There will always be blocking links, and thanks to an awesome team, these were easily dealt with.
 - Operations are stressful, even if they are small and just for a bit of fun.
 - As much as you plan, be prepared for the unexpected.
 - It is really important to have a great team behind you, and with them, anything is possible.
 - Everyone loves cookies! :)
