Operation Umbrella Pacman
English version below/ englische Version am Ende
Operation Umbrella Pacman
It all started with a crazy idea: To span fields all over and through Berlin City. So what’s crazy about that? The idea was conceived on 12/26/2013 and the date was set to 01/04/2014, which left a little over a week for planning. Ambitious but deemed to be doable, the operation was named “Umbrella” and planning began.
The genereal idea to span fields through the city was conveiced quickly. Because we wanted to tip our hat to previous events, we selected “Statue of J.W. von Goethe” (https://www.ingress.com/intel?ll=52.51292,13.37711&z=17&pll=52.513775,13.376504) as the central point, which played a big role in Operation #shaperdata . Our operation started with a Keyfarming-Event, which was disguised as a #ingress2014 even that yielded us ~80 Keys for ‘Goethe’.
The following days were filled with the selection of edge nodes, key farming and key exchanges and recruiting agents from the whole Berlin resistance community willing to participate in the event. Agents from all levels were invitied to join, as we wanted to put fun for everyone over secrecy. On 01/03/2014 all agents had been divided into teams. In the remaining time cookies and gingerbread supplies were baked and battery packs were recharged.
The OP-Center at #cbase was set up at 5 PM, with the phase of the operation set to start at 7 PM 01/04/2014, preceded by cleaning operations at locations that would be closed to the public later in the night. Links were cleared at Flughafen Tempelhof and one agent who was disguised as a mother with her children cleared Berlin Zoo.
At 7 PM, cleaner teams started to spread out through the city on foot, bikes and cars and the linker teams went into position. The critical phase of the operation had begun.
Some zones were cleared quickly and could have been linked early, but all parts of the umbrella had to go up at the same time. Awakened by our activity, the frogs started to fight back, battery packs ran emtpy and the cold weather started to affect the stationary linker teams.
At midnight all link corridors were finally clear and one field after the other started to pop up, accompanied by cheers from all involved agents. Only one link could not be established, which quickly lead to a new title for the operation after the first screenshots were posted: “Operation Pacman”!
After the operation was completed, the Pacman-Crew assembled at +c-base space station to celebrate the operation in the OP-Center.
Thanks to all agents involved from Potsdam, Brandenburg and Berlin, to all cleaners, linkers, farmers, bakers and operators! This was our biggest operation in berlin yet, with over 100 agents involved!
Thanks again to all agents, new players, veterans, casuals or professionals, every one of you was and still is important!

Would have enjoyed the after party as well, too tired though. Thanks again for this fun project to all participating agents and our awesome OP team.
