Date: February 9th
Time: 10:30 AM - 4:00 PM

There is one place in the world that invokes joy like no other; one symbol of happiness and magic that is known everywhere in the world.

That place is Disneyland.

Home to well over a hundred portals, between its two theme parks and Downtown Disney area. Being the pinnacle of theme parks, and one which all others strive to be, it makes sense that it would be such a key location for XM and the portals. It’s one of the more important cultural objects in southern California, and one of the most recognized.

Sadly, Disneyland spends most of its time blue. It seems many of the employees in the park have aligned with the resistance; after hours, it is common for any standing green portals to flip blue. But tens of thousands of people come to the park every day, and it is unfair that they should have to do so under the oppression of the resistance XM affecting their experience. Especially when most people have no idea what is going on right over their heads!

Enter operation Enlightening Disneyland.

The brainchild of Amy Goodwin  (spbink), the idea was to organize a big enough enlightened movement to flip the entire park to level 8 portals, all linked, at the same time. Many weeks of planning went to organizing logistics around tickets, finding out who had tickets (many of our agents are passholders), who could get free tickets, and who would have to buy tickets. In the end, with all our contacts, we were able to get all 27 agents into the park without having to buy a single ticket! Big thanks to Amy Goodwin  and Joe Asa  for making that possible.

We met in the courtyard between both parks, and headed in close to 10:30 AM. As we started up main street, we destroyed everything blue and made them all 8. We gathered at the castle, and took a nice group picture. After that, it was on.

We split into two groups, a slightly bigger group that would go clockwise and hit adventure land, New Orleans square, critter country, and Frontierland then end up in Fantasyland. The second, smaller group would go counter-clockwise, hitting Tomorrowland, Towntown, and double back through Fantasyland. The goal was 90 minutes to turn all of Disneyland green, and meet at the Monorail at 1:00 PM.

We more or less hit our goal, the bigger group had more ground to cover and some trickier portals to hit (one can only be hit while riding the Jungle Cruise), so the smaller group covered Fantasyland to help speed things up.

By 1:15 PM, Disneyland was covered in all level 8 enlightened portals!

We took the monorail to Downtown Disney, and took a break for lunch.

Around this time, the resistance started to get wind of what we were doing, and were trying to organize a counter offensive to take down our portals. The ones surrounding the parks on the street started to fall, but due to our recharging while eating, not much actually fell. Toontown, unfortunately, was a casualty during our lunch break.

At 2:30, we regrouped, and marched down Downtown Disney, turning the dozen or so portals there into level 8 enlightened beacons. Then, as one solid group, we took down California Adventure, starting on Buena Vista street, carving up the Hollywood Backlot, then bugs land, Cars Land, Pacific Wharf, Paradise Pier, then Grizzly Peak and finally ending our loop in Condor Flats.

The park was all green, and all level 8 portals, by 4:00 PM.

We had succeeded in turning all of Disneyland into level 8 enlightened portals in just about 5 ½ hours!

After that, many people returned home to their families, plenty stayed to eat, hang out at the park, and just enjoy the most magical place on earth.

By nightfall, the resistance had taken back most of the portals in the park. A few remnants of our victory remain, including the aforementioned Jungle Cruise portal. And while the portals themselves may not remain, the show of force and unity that the Southern California Enlightened showed will remain with the Resistance for a long time to come.
