It is considered the biggest Buddha in the U.S, located within the Chuang Yen Monastery of Carmel, New York. The status is a 37-foot tall seated Vairocana Buddha in its Hall of Ten Thousand Buddhas. The largest Buddha statue in the U.S. and probably the Western Hemisphere.

Please, if possible, also rename this portal to "Vairocana Buddha" as that is its official name.

EDIT: 大佛殿於1989年10月15日破土開工，大佛連基座高達45呎，1991年由杭州美術學院陳長庚教授著手塑造，分佛頭、佛身和蓮座三部份，大佛於1993年秋天完工後，1994年開始建築大殿，經過四年施工，於1997年5月24日完工啟用。從此寺內各項大型法會都在這裡舉行. Quick Trans: Status construction started Oct/89, completed, Fall/1993. Temple started 1994, completed 5/24/1997. (source: http://www.baus.org/tc/?p=841#more-841)
