LINKS ACROSS AMERICA - 2014 - MICHIGAN
Linking War Memorials across the country during Memorial Day Weekend.
This year we had a northern route that ran through Michigan.
A group of us took on the challenge.
Thursday I went to Monroe MI Vietnam Veteran's Memorial to meet agents Chris Arnett @whitemonster @Naruriel and @therootshell We discussed the Battle Creek to Monroe MI Route and the possible landing areas for linking to Ohio. They offered to help protect Monroe during the linking process to keep the portals from being captured or killed.
I then left Monroe and drove along Rt 2 in Ohio looking for a military or memorial along the Lake Erie shores to link to when i came upon Camp Perry. I took the 3 portals in front and jarvis one to make both a green and blue target portal. I then drove further up the coast to Sandusky where the Ohio Veterans Memorial was located. I found out about that memorial when a police officer pulled behind me while i was at the Camp Perry location, i told him what i was doing and instead of telling me to move on, he gave me directions to the next memorial!
The next day, Friday, I worked on connecting people and getting people into regional hangouts for the three national routes, then headed out to Grand Rapids. I met Steve Jones and Ryan Malkin at the Battle Creek War Memorial and collected the keys we would need for the big link back to monroe mi. I dropped keys for Monroe to the Battle Creek crew. I also met Enlightened Creighton Taylor agent @IamVillian
On Saturday, I needed to drive back to Detroit and clear links along the way. Virginia Kasten volunteered to run intel for me and Enlightenment Agents Adam F. and Ryan Malkin cleared links along the path also.
In Clinton, I met Tom Culler Agent @Greenawesome and he had a great farm there, not wanting to destroy an entire farm for just a few links that needed taken down, Tom volunteered to use some virus and take out the links between Clinton and Tecumseh, and then I headed to Tecumseh to clear links there. In Tecumseh i accidentally took out a 115 day old guardian and felt really bad about it!
Virginia Kasten did a GREAT job guiding me across Michigan and by end of day we all had the links cleared and headed to Monroe MI to throw the first links.
During the day I had worked with Resistance agent Derek Schaefer because there were links inside Camp Perry that needed clearing. He talked to Enlightnement agent Steve Grzegorzewski who helped by taking out all the links at Camp Perry for us - THANK YOU STEVE!
On Saturday night we met back at Monroe to throw the links. First Michael Knight and Ryan Malkin linked the resistance and enlightenment portals to Camp Perry and we cheered as these first links went up! Next we went to make the link to Battle Creek - But they wouldn't link!!! We looked at intel and saw two blockers had gone up, one in Dundee 25 minutes away from us. And the other was in Battle Creek. We went to take out the Dundee blocker while Ryan Misner cleared some of the blockers in Battle Creek and then Creighton Taylor @IamVillian took out the final blocking link for us, he had had a long day and was tired and had a few drinks, but walked several blocks late at night to take the link out for us - THANK YOU CREIGHTON!
TIred, we all headed home around 4am, it had been a long day!
On Sunday morning after a few hours sleep, we headed back across the state to Battle Creek, Virginia Kasten Ryan Malkin and myself, we met with Ryan Misner and Creighton Taylor got a picture by the memorial and then we all headed out to clear links between Battle Creek and South Haven. Adam F. helped running intel for us, finding agents to clear links in distant cities, THANKS ADAM!!! and by mid afternoon we had cleared the way, but not before playing whack-a-mole with links that kept popping up, lol...and there was a portal we took out not knowing it was a 141 day guardian!! We felt so bad!
We threw the link from South Haven to Battle Creek, then went to York's Restaurant to celebrate. While having dinner, we noticed keys appear in the channel, Ryan Malkin ran out of the restaurant to go retrieve them. We looked at the keys and they were WIsconsin keys! For directly across Lake Michigan in Kenosha. We wondered...how did the keys we need to connect Michigan to Wisconsin magically appear right when we needed them? The answer was Dan Renner had been following the activity and had keys he knew we could use and so we looked up to see Dan waving hello from his boat!!! He had dropped them from the boat, we invited him to join us and he came with us to the portals to help us make the final links and you can see all of us in the picture in front of the tank.
We would not have been able to make the link to Wisconsin if it hadn't been for Dave Garnier Paul DeArment Jr Tyler Greene and the Kenosha agents for making sure the way to Kenosha was clear and getting the keys to Dan to get to us! THANK YOU!!
By that time it was sunset, we celebrated the final link with a Sherman's Ice Cream cone and a beautiful sunset, then started the long ride home, knowing we had completely connected across Michigan from WIsconsin to Ohio!!! Success!!
