the western perspective
The dream of this field started the fall of 2013, looking for something bigger and better. Like may of you, I watch "the deadliest catch" ...there must be a portal there right?. Low and behold, the Aleutian WW2 museum in Unalaska.
Well too late in the season to go there, so the waiting game begins.
Then this spring it all started to fall together, We had an agent go up there for work (and farm keys ;))The "canadian pipeline" first moved keys for us, then about a month ago we changed this up again and a friend working in Toronto was the ticket when his wife went to visit. June 27th. The final hand off was made and the final planning begun.
We started making the hangouts, lots of hangouts, and recruiting, we Nicknamed the OP "bow-tie" just in case the name deadliest was leaked... one may be able to figure out we were going to Unalaska.
The HQ hangout was unreal, truly like a machine working endless hours.
Hawaii was contacted to add on, and then Japan (both did an exceptional job)
Go time was to be all fields up at 0500pst on 7-27-2014 (for 6 layers over the US), but in the 11th hour we found a new problem...Homer, AK, a friendly blocker. D'Oh!
The decision was made to do the Pacific fields anyways and the dream that we had worked on was dwindling.
The lane was open from Amos Canada to Cabo, we had to shoot and try to hold it. For over six hours our cards were on the table, the stress was unreal. Agent @unclebeldin couldn't just blow off work, he had to wait until he made sure everything was "under control" and then he was off, driving the 4+ hours.
Finally up, for all of Helios to see, 2 layers @ 67 million apiece
Shortly after it went up, I sat back and actually shed a tear (some toads as well but for a different reason)
Huge thanks to the planners and lane clearers. it was crazy like you can't imagine.
