Operation Flying Kangaroo

On June 30th, a call came through to WA to work with SA on making the bulk of Australia green which was to go ahead on July 6th. Due to the short notice and our agents having recently completed Operation Candyland, we had minimal resources to work with.

Kangaroo Island was to be the main anchor for dissecting Australia and fielding up as much as possible going between Daintree Rainforest QLD, Daly Waters NT, Newman WA, Kalgoorlie WA and Augusta WA.

Within WA, the plan was to field Exmouth-Newman-Geraldton, Geraldton-Newman-Kalgoorlie, Augusta-Kalgoorlie-Geraldton. The longest link to be made within WA from Kalgoorlie to Newman being a little over 844km.

We didn’t have the keys for Kalgoorlie that SA had, nor did Kalgoorlie have Geraldton or Newman keys. So on July 4th,@dotmelie ninja flew to Kalgoorlie, delivered the items to @Eumalan and @jayel1364, returned home and went to the pub. Fortunately,@zequib, @vBrie and @OezSparky were travelling to Exmouth as it was, and were able to stop past Geraldton on July 5th and deliver their much needed items to @StrontiumSteel and @KylyllaSteel.

Blockers, both E and R, were in some fairly annoying locations. July 3rd had @dotmelie take out a friendly field an hour or so south of Perth that was directly linked to the Augusta portals. To avoid flipping Augusta, it was easier and quicker to destroy this. Unfortunately, the agent whose name was on the capture, thought it was their guardian and questioned the destruction in all comms. So surprise #1 was ruined. We went into defensive mode.@renegades worked out a plan that had @miiiichael fielding over Perth and @infinitebacon fielding the countryside.

Reaction, solution, diversion - In the afternoon of July 4th,@infinitebacon travelled between Williams, Harrismith, Kukerin, Lake Grace, Newdegate, Hyden, Kalgarin and Kondinin (all country locations with hefty distances between them) to create a rather pretty diversion that culminated in guardian hunting and making some nifty fields leaving a path for the link/s to go through from Augusta to Kalgoorlie. It took all night, but he did it – just to get rid of a small field between Kalgarin and Kondinin that was blocking the path of the links.

July 5th had @miiichael who was already travelling to Bunbury, send a field over Perth up to Kalgoorlie and Geraldton. He captured a nice 1,027,760 mind units. Ok, cool, diversion done.

Aaahhh, Kangaroo Island linked to Newman and Kalgoorlie! They’d already linked to NT and QLD. Nothing we can do about that. Just hope they don’t link to Augusta.

July 5th saw @dotmelie travel to Albany to remove some links that were blocking the path of the Augusta/Kangaroo Island link but since they were near areas where there were many a single deploy portal, why not make it seem like it was a guardian hunt purely for shiggles? But because of the KI links,@dotmelie was showing her cards showing up around Albany. but it was a risk that had to be taken; those links needed to go.

At 230am after a spa and quick sleep,@dotmelie set off from Albany to Augusta killing many more guardians along the way coming across many a fallen tree blocking the roads, as well as kangaroos, emus and owls. Oh so many owls. Finally arriving in Augusta at 930am, we did our final check to make sure all portals were upgraded, link amped and ready to send and receive. Kangaroo Island linked to Augusta on time,@dotmelie threw up to Kalgoorlie and Geraldton; Perth was blocked in.

The mind units captured on July 6th directly related to the SA Op were:

Kangaroo Island-Augusta-Kalgoorlie 80, 554
Kalgoorlie-Augusta-Geraldton 1, 084, 080
Kalgoorlie-Geraldton-Newman 13, 666 + 16, 930
Exmouth-Geraldton-Newman 18, 196 + 7
Total for WA: 1, 213, 433

But this story doesn’t end here. Kangaroo Island was destroyed an hour after the field with Augusta was made and Augusta was destroyed 2 hours after it was fielded.

@dotmelie was already in Margaret River when Augusta was being attacked and with a few keys and link amps left, why not make some more fields?@renegades jumped into action and found a portal that had 2x ER8 in the centre of Margaret River. Linking back up to Kalgoorlie and Geraldton, we captured 1, 080, 183 mind units.

The fun doesn’t stop. We know that @greenellies&@Redd85(R that destroyed Augusta) are only an hour behind and we can still make some more fields.@dotmelie drives about an hour to Busselton to destroy an R portal that was blocking the next field, but @greenellies was sending links everywhere! Well that buggers up fielding from Busselton…back to Margaret River to clean up their mess, then back to Busselton to make some noise, kill even more guardians along the way and make it seem like we weren’t doing much more. Then out east near Dowerin, R get an agent,@Cozdm, out of retirement to throw a few blockers out. HA! He blocked nothing. Though,@greenellies and @Redd85 did manage to throw a link out from Busselton to Cunderdin that ran 200m parallel to our own blocking link from Margaret River to Williams for 100km and missed another by 50m. This link blocked us from fielding up again, luckily,@Orusta was near and removed it for us.

So now, the heat is on,@renegades finds something in Bunbury we can field from, but first, a stop in Capel, let’s field right over @greenellies and @Redd85. Only 4, 985 mind units but a bit of a giggle none the less.

Bunbury:@infinitebacon had been through earlier this morning after he ADA’d Henty (a blocker of the Augusta/Kalgoorlie link) and captured a few portals only leaving his R8 & R7 but that was enough. Mangrove Boat up to Kalgoorlie and Geraldton caught us 1, 032, 513 mind units. Then to top the day, why not layer it for shiggles? Go ada a portal, walk a block in the rain and @dotmelie’s final field up to Kalgoorlie and Geraldton including splitting the hair, had us capture 1, 033, 468  mind units.

Total mind units captured for the shiggles: 3, 151, 149.

WHAT A DAY! But it sure was worth it.

Oh no! MIDNIGHT!@AmritaNinja&@GuardianKitsune destroys Geraldton! That’s ok,@StrontiumSteel fixes it, links down to Bunbury,@Eumalan links back to Geraldton, another 1, 030, 000 mind units captured.

Then all the fun ended at 12:30pm July 7th when @homebrewron destroys the remaining Bunbury field. It sure was a good battle though. Final MU count for the entire WA Operation:  5, 394, 582.

  1. How many of the fields made a check point?

  2. Harry Zeng: how many fields made check point? The bulk over WA did. Went through a few.

I think the first four including from South Australia went through 1.

Then the last 4 went through 2 or 3. Being the city double blanket, the north-east blanket and the north blanket. Has us winning this week by about 200k mu. Unless they pull a rabbit out of the hat within the next 1.5 hours. Never know, they could be that sneaky.

  3. Good title, especially considering that R @Rooman took down the K.I. portals as well - his other nickname is Skippy.

  6. Melissa North Yep, you're right, the first 4 fields involving SA went through one, the two layered Bunbury-Geraldton-Kalgoorlie fields went through another and then the final Bunbury-Geraldton-Kalgoorlie fielded the day after also went a third one.
