SITREP OPERATION DUGNADSÅND
#OpDugnad  #Norway   #Ingress

#Ingress  Field Report
Operation: Dugnadsånd -  ( #OpDugnad )
Objective: Provide safe harbour and passage for the #Helios artifacts
Status: Success!

The Enlightened Vikings strike again, but contrary to popular modern conceptions of the Vikings, this is a story of co-operation, trade and sharing - not one of berserker rage. A story that fits more to the complex picture that emerges from actual historical sources.

Dugnad* : A Norwegian term for voluntary work done together with other people. A core phenomenon for Norwegians, and a fundamental pillar for the many successful operations completed by the Norwegian Enlightened faction. Dugnader is commonly identified with co-operation, cleaning and construction work, and they occur more widely in remote and rural areas.

The Norwegian word "Dugnadsånd" is translatable to the spirit of will to work together for a better community. Many Norwegians will describe this as a typical Norwegian thing to have, but this operation show that the word truly should be applied globally to the #Enlightened faction. The sheer volume of contributions all over the world towards making this a monumental achievement is stunning.

*Summary: Operation #OpDugnad *

What started as an idea for safe keeping one artifact turned out to be the global solution to the challenge posed by the emerging of the second and third #helios artifact incidents. Northern Norway have for the last two weeks served as both receiver and indeed sender for the majority of the #helios artifacts.

Through a series of contributions done by the whole enlightened community, artifacts #7, #12, #6, #8, #10, #14 are moved safely towards their final destination: India gate, New Delhi. Before reaching their final destination these artifacts have crossed the globe several times over, and on some instances, back again.

Involved in the events are many, many agents, from both the local branch and from far reaches such as Russia, Canada, Great Britain, and even Svalbard. Locally this series of events have put almost all active agents in Northern Norway in to action. Agents in every fjord and at every mountain top have been tearing down crucial blockers and replacing them with new ones to suit our need - all to secure the safe passage for the #helios artifacts.

Agents involved and areas covered are at the bottom and in the images added to this report.

Writeup:

Artifact Virginity -  Artifact #7
In the days before Wednesday 20th August, a clear line of sight had to be established from Bergen towards Tromsø in Northern Norway, a link of about 1250km. Agents in Kristiansund, Romsdal, Rørvik, Senja, Tromsø, Harstad and Narvik were contacted and carried out their part. As zero hour came and went, a final piece of the puzzle were presented to our decoders from Niantic - the artifact would not emerge until six more hours had passed.

As the original decoded information stated, the artifact would emerge at 02:00 GMT and reach Tromsø at 04:00 if the resistance were to pose no threat. The first Bergen and Tromsø teams were up all night preparing the sites, and only two hours after returning to the city, Artifact #7 spawned as decoded: 08.00GMT. Several agents scrambled to get on site, delaying work and other duties. Due to one difficult blocker, one agent stayed nine hours on site to await further linking, and successfully thwarted resistance attacks.

As the original plan and request from global enlightened Headquarters were for us to safeguard the artifact up north, an elaborate plan to box in the artifact were put into effect. All cardinal directions had several layers of blockers put up, and alternative routes for the artifact in to the city centre were planned. All known resistance routes in and out of the city were sealed or removed.

After readying up to move the artifact to the city there were some very intense twelve hours waiting while two agents out on day-duties were racing toward a far off blocker. That one blocker that separated artifact #7 from the city centre and its safekeeping maze of Lv7+ portals. Said agents also put up a third layer wall of blockers to further insulate the city proper. After arriving in the city the artifact traversed steadily, jumping every hour. It visited local important tourist hotspots, like any other northern light or midnightsun seeking tourist. We were done, no one could get the artifact out without a lot of cooperation and ammunition. We were tasked to safeguard it - so that we did.

We monitored artifact #7 for many hours, watching it travel beautifully through the maze, with us interfering a few times to optimize the path or modify potential no return paths. It’s a long story in itself and include many, if not all enlightened agents in Tromsø. The regional enlightened community had proven itself a mighty cell, and as a nice effect of the artifacts arrival, the activity in the area have since increased significantly.

Double Trouble - Artifact #12 and Artifact #7
Shortly after it was known that artifact #7 was safe in Tromsø, agents from an earlier transfer attempt contacted us. Could Norway, or even Northern Norway handle one more artifact?  Artifact #12  were unsafe in its current area, Quebec, Canada. At 5300 km distance, and after several adjustments (and a lot of ADAs spent) for the incoming link it arrived, passing mere 25 meters north of a potential blocker on a mountaintop of a thousand meters.

After realizing we now had to take care of not only one, but two artifacts several strategies were discussed, but we decided in the end to keep the artifacts separated, to minimize the risk of potential resistance interference. Both regional and national help were brought in on the task to survey the resistance activity in the city, and to sound the alarm at any suspect actions.

After a day in Tromsøs custody it was decided that we break up our barriers and move both artifacts through their pre-planned extraction route. The resistance had made too many unpredicted moves for us to remain calm, we had to move the artifacts. The two were still separated by a lot of links and were virtually impossible to join inside of our bounds, so two extraction points had to be used. The evening fell, and both artifacts arrived at their most optimal launch sites toward our existing portal at Sandland kirke, a remote enlightened controlled portal that we had plenty of keys to. Our simple plan was to let both arrive on Sandland at midnight.

Eight agents were distributed to five different local sites, this mostly to undo our protective shell around the city, to allow linking outside of our city proper. The carefully planned blockers and layers were broken up, and immediately replaced with new aligned blocking links. One particularly diligent agent drove close to three hours one way to nuke one of our own remote and protective Lv7 portals with lots of links, including a link toward target, Sandland.

Right on time, at 23.45 local,  the first blocker fell, and we collectively held our breath as the rest of the plan was carried out. Would the resistance interfere this time? We knew that they were planning something, but we hoped that our seemingly irrational launch sites would put them off.  The minutes passed and in rapid succession all remaining friendly blockers were realigned with the help of ADA. As replacement blockers came up, our fear of the resistance intercepting and sending one of the artifacts to the uninhabited island of Gåsvær were always on our mind. Finally the Launch portals were all upgraded to the required level and linked to their destination.

To our immense relief and joy, right on time at 00.00 GMT+1 both artifacts made the jump, left Tromsø and arrived on Sandland - next destination Vadsø, or so we thought.

Successful execution?- Artifact #7,  Artifact #8,  Artifact #10,  Artifact #12
We left the sites feeling that the eyes of the #ingress world really had been opened for future participation for our local group. It was indeed the earlier cooperation and sharing of keys made this exercise possible. One of the main factors that contributed to the extraction from Tromsø where the existing fields from the successful Op Grønngjøk, executed just days before that involved creating many layered field over Finnmark and Northern Troms.

While en route from Sandland towards the Enlightened hub in Vadsø, our predictions were challenged. at 01-02.00 GMT+1, just hours after arriving on Sandland, artifact #7 decided to make a random jump to a nearby portal (which we needed to handle later). A previously unheard of action, which no doubt will continue to baffle our tacticians and decoders for several cycles. When this was noticed agents in Vadsø scrambled in the middle of the night and successfully fetched the remaining artifact #12 from Sandland.

In light of the current situation, and due to the resourcefulness shown by the local agents, it was decided that Vadsø should retrieve two additional artifacts. Artifact #8 and Artifact #10 arrived in Vadsø during the night. Amounting to a total four out of seven in play. more than half of the artifacts were now in Northern Norway! As agents moved in to position, a new option was revealed. with relative ease, the three artifacts (#8, #10 and #12) in Vadsø were shipped to Svalbard, even further north. Using the scorched earth tactic, the local agents in Longyearbyen, Svalbard burned down every portal after receiving the artifacts. they were again safe.

-

Arctic artifact apex - Artifact #14,  Artifact #15,
After this whole ordeal, enlightened and indeed Norway were a hot topic in the ingress circles. Again we were proposed as a receiving site for yet another artifact. Tromsø accepted the challenge immediately. Artifact #14 would be incoming in only a few hours over the same path from Canada, as used for artifact #12.

Agents went to work, prepared the area, and utilized strategies learned during the previous transfers. Portals were ADAed, keys were collected and everything made ready to be put in motion at the decided time. The exit would be the same one as used in the previous transfers, Sandland over to Vadsø before Svalbard. There were several delays for the arrival, so agents in Tromsø created and modified several variants on how to retrieve the artifact. Given a link incoming when no agents were in place, several variants from semi- to full autopiloting the artifacts route were considered.

Finally artifact #14 arrived on the launch pad in Canada, but several new links popped up, including a non-blocking resistance link from Canada to France, the resistance were trying to ship artifact #15 overseas.
Emergency actions were taken, and agents agreed that the link should be put up as soon as possible, to avoid further risk of new blockers crossing the line of sight from Canada to Tromsø. After opening the blocker links locally, Canada successfully established the second transatlantic link to the same portal, and with that secured the arrival of the second artifact on the same portal: Fiskehjellan.

Security measures were put back, a new network for the artifact to traverse were set up, and agents went for some well deserved sleep. The next day artifact #14 had jumped as expected through our set up route, and we established one more link and shipped it of to Sandland and further to Vadsø.

Paranoia strikes - Artifact #7,  Artifact #8,  Artifact #10,  Artifact #12,  Artifact #14
The calendar now shows Monday 25th of August, and our duties in the #Helios artifact must surely be coming to an end? After being at a maximum of ingress activity for almost a week, it must finally be time to relax?  We now count three (3) artifacts at Svalbard, one (1) in Vadsø and one(1) still lost in transit between Tromsø and Vadsø, a total of five artifacts under Enlightened Control in Northern Norway!

National surveillance notice a surge of resistance activity both in Alta, where artifact #7 now have jumped to, and on Svalbard where artifact #8, artifact #10 and artifact #12 are stored. After discussing the matter, and by valiant effort on Svalbard, four (4) artifacts collected on one portal in Vadsø before they all are sent to a remote location in western Canada.

There will be cake - Artifact #6, Artifact #7,  Artifact #8,  Artifact #10,  Artifact #12,  Artifact #14
After global enlightenment decoders and operators retrieved vital information about the next target site for our faction, actions were taken to again call in as many artifacts as possible to the Vadsø hub. While enlightened headquarters planned and coordinated for a path to be created from Vadsø to the New Delhi destination portal, local agents in Northern Norway set out to retrieve the long lost artifact #7.

Meanwhile agents in Stavanger assembled to raid the Resistance island getaway of Rott, where they thought artifact #6 were safe. Previously this site had been used to further the resistances cause, serving as an anchor for many a mackerel unit field. The weather was perfect when they set sail and they quickly traversed the high seas and arrived at Rott, with resistance nowhere to be seen. Within an hour the artifact was safely tucked away inland at the depths of Etne.

Satisfied with the results and determined to take advantage of the weather window, the agents set their sights on Feistein Fyr, another resistance stronghold and a potential Artifact evacuation site. This leg of the journey was longer than expected and the wind started picking up. But skillfully guided by their captain, the agents  made it and claimed the portal. This excursion to the site took about four hours, as site was pretty remote, visiting agents should note to be careful of the weather, as the site it is really exposed. After making it back to shore, artifact #6 were put in the capable hands of Bergen Enlightened, who promptly shipped it to safely to the Orkney Islands

A minimum six hour drive from Tromsø had to be completed before the revolting artifact #7 again could be put under our control. The mission details clearly stated that no ingress interactions should be made on the way there, as notorious resistance agents had been spotted in the area mere hours before extraction time, this was vital. The artifact had been contained for several days, but now it had a narrow time frame to move it to Vadsø, to join its brethren. five minutes before the scheduled jump at 23:00 the portal got fully deployed by the three agents, and linked up to Vadsø. Artifact #7 had reached our goal.

At the same time two more agents were tasked to ensure Artifact #6’s safe passage to Vadsø from Orkney. Artifact #6 were retrieved from Orkney by agents utilizing a narrow opening at the southern side of Tromsø. Careful calculations to obtain line of sight were made while necessary equipment for the long links were flown in. As our struggle had all but depleted our local virii storages, the capsules also contained vital refactors contributed from all over Norway. At 22:45 we obtained line of sight from Leirbakken gravlund to Orkney, and the link was established. Artifact #6 paid Tromsø a short visit before being sent to Sandland at 00:00, which puts it one hour after its five counterparts on their way to Baku through Russia.
