Last week on Wednesday my good friend @mimtwin sends me a message saying a link in Orkney needs to be taken out so that she can make a field from Iceland, and did I think we could do it? I discussed it with Craig and with a little help from some friends, we decided to go for it. Our friend @Scheaffer asked if we minded if he tagged along. We told him it was fine, so we picked him up in Inverness, halfway to the ferry, which was about 6.5 hours drive in total.
After an hour on the ferry to one of the islands, we checked into our hotel and headed over to Kirkwall on the Mainland island. There we had some dinner and waited for the order to take down the link. The order finally came and the 3 of us made quick work of taking down the Kirkwall Lighthouse portal which was linked to Norway.
After that we walked around Kirkwall taking down all of the green portals we could find, then headed back to our hotel and went to bed. The guys fell asleep fairly quickly so they never saw that the field went up, until the following morning. I couldn't sleep with the two of them snoring, so I got to see the results as they came in :o).
On Sunday we did a bit of sightseeing then made a mad dash from the ferry back to Inverness to get @Scheaffer to his train on time, luckily making it with 8 minutes to spare! We then got something to eat and headed home, arriving exhausted at 1:19am. Sleep? who needs sleep?
It was an epic weekend!
