Operation: Do it Live

Operation: Do it Live

It was Saturday, November 1st when Niantic dropped the bomb.  We were a connected cell for the Darsana anomaly.  Oh, and the cycle starts tomorrow.  Get to it!

There was a flurry of activity amongst the field team.  With no real time to key farm we had to go with what we had in our existing inventory.  Ideas started to fly.  Fields were either too small (not enough MU) or too big (too complicated to put together so quickly).  Then I opened a capsule I had all but forgotten about, a field in a box put together by Dnaltrop.  It was perfect.  But when to throw?  Certainly we need some time to plan this thing, right?  Cue agent LightAxe “$@%# it, we’ll do it live!”.  So the throw time was set for 11PM Sunday, roughly 36 hours from inception.  And that’s when things got real blurry.

In what seemed like the blink of an eye lines were drawn, keys were distributed, agents were pinged, lanes were cleared, and sleep was missed.  The mood was frantic but optimistic and everything was going according to plan, or according to what would have been the plan if we actually had one.  Link throwers got on the road and anchors were prepped.  It was almost time to go, but one blocker remained due to a cell service issue.  Our backup link buster arrived…  just as a mess of blue fields went up between Tillamook and Banks, blocking our western lane.  There was no time to drop them before checkpoint.

What to do?

A) Throw as soon as the blue was cleared and almost certainly miss checkpoint?
B) Scrap the plans for another day?
C) $@%# it, we’ll do it live!

We’ve always been an option “C” kind of team, and LightAxe, 90nine, and MaxwellSmart00 are a bunch of savages that didn’t blink an eye at camping out and throwing for the following checkpoint.  And that’s how a group of grown folks with work and school in the morning ended up staying awake waaaaaay past their bedtimes to push buttons on their cell phone telephones in remote locations.

The field flew shortly after 2AM and covered Portland metro including Salem, Vancouver, and Longview in fifteen layers of the most beautiful shade of green.  Despite a last minute takedown effort by the resistance eight of these layers stood for the 4AM checkpoint netting us over 8 million MU.  And as always, I stand humbled in front of some the most dedicated people I have ever had the chance to work with.  Your efforts are what drives this team day after day.  I can never thank you enough, but I can list you all here for your moment of glory.  Cue credits:

  2. I tried to get them to wait until 3:30, but apparently people wanted to sleep before work. The next day was a long one... Made it to work on time, so that was a win!
