#FoundOnFieldTrip: Berkeley Castle
The Berkeley family has inhabited Berkeley Castle in England, originally built as a Norman Fortress, since the late 12th century. Guides bring the castle's history alive during visits to the Kings Gallery (where King Edward II was brutally murdered), the Tower Room, the Great Hall, formal rooms, domestic areas and more. You can even visit the Beer Cellar and catch the faint aroma of hops from the ancient beer barrels. Expect to see some stunning artwork, gleaming Georgian silver, beautiful porcelain, wonderful tapestries, fantastic armoury collections, Francis Drake's cabin chest, Queen Elizabeth I's bedspread and, of course, all the trappings of an old fashioned kitchen. You will also see features such as "trip steps" designed to make intruders fall during an assault, arrow slits and murder holes.
