Cookies make everything better, especially #IngressFS.
The second installment of First Saturday in Sioux Falls saw additions and improvements, new faces and familiar, as well as a bit of a developing trend. This month's meet-up took place inside the Shriver's Square portal at The Cookie Jar Eatery smack dab in the heart of Downtown Sioux Falls.
The location provided quick and easy access to Sioux Falls' most dense cluster of portals and a fitting ground for the level-up bootcamp. Several lower-level agents took advantage of some seasoned veterans' guidance and wrangled a three-way tie for most levels gained. One agent had to drop out early, leaving the father-son Resistance team of Trekr and Cortierz gaining two levels each and sharing the level-up prize.
Cortierz, a young, soft-spoken agent convinced his father to bring him to #IngressFS , and established agents from both factions took it from there to recruit Trekr to the Resistance fold.
The Resistance needed the boost in numbers, since the Enlightened outnumbered them close to 3-2. With those odds, the Enlightened made out with the most AP gain, a total of 804,695. The Resistance were not too far behind with 608,146 in AP gains. According to the rules of #IngressFS Sioux Falls, the victor of the faction struggle is the side with the most AVERAGE AP gain, and with fewer numbers, for the second month in a row, the Resistance pulled ahead with an average gain of 86,878 AP compared to the Enlightened average difference of 67,058 AP, meaning the coveted Sioux Falls Power Cube Cup was awarded, after a lengthy retrieval process by Resistance leadership YogiKan, to the Resistance. In specific, the Resistance agent with the largest individual gain earned the honor of caring for the Cup for the next month, as well as the responsibility to defend the title at the next #IngressFS. That agent is DeadlyNightshade with a gain of 175,948 AP. With a smile and gleam in her eye, she promised to give her best fight at the next event, even as she delicately yet securely grasped the cup.
In further addition to the bootcamp were three dead drops hidden at different portals across the play field. Agents were sent out at the beginning of the bootcamp with three cryptic clues. About 45 minutes into gameplay, another, slightly more specific set of clues was released. Then about 20 minutes before the end of the bootcamp, the final, somewhat obvious clues were revealed. Agents Cortierz, magicjen and feedhead deciphered the clues and retrieved the drops, claiming their prizes in the after-bootcamp meeting. Credit and thanks go to agent tkdsuperfly for his development and handling of the drop contest.
The social time before and after gameplay was well-spent getting to know some of the newer and more reclusive agents. More than once, broad smiles of recognition spread across the faces of some of the more social agents as they shook the hand of (or hugged) an often-seen name from comms and flipped portals. Agents traveled from across the state, not a small undertaking in the broad, unforgiving prairie of South Dakota, including one who made a "quick trip" before work to meet many of his fellow Ingressors for the first time in person.
Several mini crash courses were held as agents shared basic game play with agents that had showed up just hoping to figure out how to play. One in particular squeaked in just as clean-up was finishing. He had driven his rig from Chicago straight to Sioux Falls in hopes of finding out how he can play and join the community of this strange game that was pre-installed on his iPhone.
Thank you to all the agents who participated Sioux Falls' second #IngressFS , especially to the Zamboni Crew who went above and beyond in making the day successful.
