This op has been a rollercoaster, in the total chaos leading up to it I’ve often wondered will we get support, will we have enough on either side or am I taking on something much too large? Well here we are today just a few days before Christmas and the tree went mostly up, a total length of 500 KM long, 250 Km Wide involving dozens of ingress communities! I have to give a lot of credit to those who helped organize their areas. They spent hundreds of hours on hangouts keeping people in the loop, working out issues and bringing order to the chaos, without their help I would have been lost. Alex ESTO , Jamie Pepper , Mike P , Matthew Mitchell , Tony Wagner Derek Simpson and Neil Klassen did a fantastic job not only rallying their own faction but bringing in their counterparts.
I wish I could say that this op started out small and grew, but the truth is this op didn’t start small. In fact the original concept came From Bethany Linekar after a long drive home from another BAF we were tired and giggling and trying to stay awake and what better time than to plan the next big thing. Bethany said she wanted to create a Christmas tree going up the 401. I thought, that would be easy. I went home and drew up a sketch, making it both blue and green. Threw the idea on G+ and started a community to save the idea to.
We decided that we should dedicate it to someone close to me and my husband, it seemed like it was meant to be with this year being the 100th anniversary of the first Christmas Truce in 1914 Scott Sumpter Grandfather, Francis Sumpter stood at a fence in no mans land and shook the hand of a German who he had been shooting at in the days prior. As I have listened to his story many times this op has reminded me of a man I never had the honor of meeting. You during the Christmas truce 100 years ago they too had soldiers who wanted to make peace, to put down the fighting for even a few hours. They also had soldiers who wanted nothing to do with it and although they may not have agreed or wanted to participate they still did nothing to stop it. Fast forward 100 years and here we are playing a game of war. This is not the same as that, it is a game but none the less we get wrapped up in it, we choose to play and to make this game a part of our lives. We get involved in the day to day grind, we celebrate wins and plan retaliation when we lose. We get emotionally involved and wrapped up in the you vs me of it all sometimes we forget that we are not enemies here, in fact we should be friends. For without Enlightened players, without the Resistance there would be no game. So today we picked up the bursters and used them to accomplish something together. We put aside our differences and worked to make this field happen. There were some disappointments along the way, the work of a few delayed several parts of the field. Agent Hitshade (Res) worked with Agent AlphaPhenom (Enl) to take out our anchors and link out from them to block fields. Luckily we were able to dispatch teams to salvage the field. Agent Bruison in the Oshawa area worked tirelessly with his team to sabotage the trunk of the tree after we moved the tree trunk to accommodate his fields. One agent put it perfectly, ‘Soldiers could stop massacring each other in the most brutal war for a whole day. 100 years later we can't get our own nerds to stop running around and ***** with the other side.’ The larger team’s determination though was inspiring, agents worked throughout the night battling the saboteurs to get their half of the trunk up and to add to it we layered it several deep. What we accomplished was not just a field, it was something everyone could be proud of. The way everyone involved worked together through the frustrations felt and shared no matter their allegiance I am proud of what we accomplished and look forward to working with each and every agent whether they be Resistance or Enlightened in the future. Now we can celebrate together, celebrate this field and a year full of victories. Merry Christmas
