#FoundOnFieldTrip: Alcatraz Island
Alcatraz, also referred to as “The Rock,” is rich in American history, more so than most people realize. It is the home of the oldest operating lighthouse on the west coast, a Civil War fortress that served as the San Francisco Arsenal, the infamous federal prison, the beginning of the American Indian Red Power movement, and also a bird sanctuary.

It's also a place that some pretty slick movies were made too!
ReplyDeleteWe were on it last when they were filming the failed TV series 'Alcatraz' http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcatraz_%28TV_series%29. They had just finished filming and were breaking for lunch, so all the rooftop lighting was still turned on, so we got some really awesome inside photos.

ReplyDeleteRob Andersen that was a cool show. Sad it didn't finish up the story.
ReplyDeleteI visited Alcatraz many years ago. A must see place! Definitely had to see where Al Capone stayed.
