"Despite the fact that we all know the risks involved, I am convinced that we should continue to investigate the value of high-dose-XM research." "We should view 'Epiphany Night' not as a crisis, but a tremendous opportunity." Dr. Victor Kureze, in an email last week. -PAC #ingress http://www.nianticproject.com http://www.nianticproject.com
Blue Water is healthier than Green Water

Explain why ice floats 😉
ReplyDeleteKira Kage Ice floats on water because density of ice is less than water
ReplyDeleteKira Kage ships can float, because the water they are floating in pushes upward against them. This pushing force is called upthrust.
ReplyDeleteJoe Philley - Water is quite unusual in that regard. Most substances are denser in the solid state than liquid.
ReplyDeleteKira Kage Joe Philley - when water gets colder it can pack itself tighter together (and therefore weigh more). Once Ice starts forming the water molecule cannot pack as tightly anymore (based on how they "stick" together to form a solid). Since they cannot pack as tightly density goes down, and the ice can float.
ReplyDeleteWater reaches its maximum density at 4°C aka 40°F to us in the States. As the water continues to cool it becomes less dense. Then at the freezing point Hydrogen bonding adjusts to hold the negatively charged oxygen atoms apart. Normally water is strongly joined to each other thanks to covalent bonds.
ReplyDeleteAlso thanks to this property this is why we get lake "turn over in the spring and fall and why we have thermoclines in our lakes.

Beer is even heavier
ReplyDeleteBut then if the density relates to the weight, isn't water below 4 degrees Celsius indeed lighter? (*Informative this is. Nice.)
ReplyDeleteKira Kage - Yes, for equal volumes.
