Super Secret Writing Project, Day 180:
11 Mar 1940: French battleship Bretagne and cruiser Algerie, escorted by destroyers Vauban, Aigle, Maille Breze, departed Toulon carrying 2,379 bars of gold totaling 147 tons. The French gold reserves were to be sent to Canada for safekeeping on the eve of the Battle of France.
