Operation Green Belt

10 layers over Glasgow & Edinburgh @1.5 million MU each
4 layers over Dundee @ 200k MU each
Let me start by saying “I HATE MY TEAM MATES!!!”
On Sunday 22nd of February I mentioned an idea to a few agents about putting a few layers over Dundee and they were not happy about it! It wasn’t big enough for them! Ha Ha Well we started discussing it and considering the Eastern anchors were out on the coast we looked at taking the western anchor further, by the time we were finished it was going to be almost on the West coast. Getting other agents on-board with the project was not an issue, there were agents clamouring to get involved (this was before the Illuminator badge) and collect keys etc. so it didn’t take long for this project to grow yet again as with the support and energy of the team we finally decided to cover pretty much all of Juliet-04 and 75% of Juliet-04! Considering this was going to be completed the following Sunday we had our work cut out for us to do this in just 7 days.
Over the next few days anchor portals were selected to maximise the layers and fitting in where possible with current cross country links from our previous fielding exploits with agent Wyldstyle for Coast to Coast. As we were going to be stretching coast to coast again it was a simple job to use the same anchors for the southern links of the big fields but this time extending them North to Fort William as well as adding on additional fields South to Stonehouses, and North to Inverurie. Key farming was the next step,@Wyldstyle&@Smurfsmasher24 were going to collect keys from Stranraer and Portpatrick but unfortunately car problems left them awaiting recovery half way there! After valiant attempts at batting their eyes to get the recovery driver to take them home Via Stranraer they got home! Immediately agent @ccHubert stepped forward and took the trip collecting the required keys, while @Dreema took a detour up to Fortingall. Agents @Gratex&@soss farmed keys for Inverbervie on their way back from a visit to Aberdeen. @Gordonc collected the final set of keys from Eyemouth whilst also collecting a few uniques on the way.
In the run up to the weekend blockers were being taken out and link lanes cleared to make things easier on the day, one major link from Aviemore to Oban was dealt with by @lairdsiz on Saturday afternoon another link had been fired later that night from / to Cairngorm Ski Resort! A call was put out and @madziag came to the rescue and made her way up to the top to wait for our call to drop it. It’s when you hear that she has to drop it by a certain time to get her last bus back down it really shows how much your team pulls together to accomplish a goal! By this time all agents were on their way to their starting points, the “Rat Pack” (@gordonc, @WaltzPeng, @Gordon 76) was on standby to take care of any stray links which would spring up and they did not have to wait long! Stray links from Perth and Dundee were crossing our link path as well as a blocking link from our own team. They timed their journey so as to be ready for action when we arrived in Fort William.
Having @Jayno turn up in Aviemore and put another blocker down to Oban while we were still on the road did have us worried for a while which added to the snowy conditions of the road made for an very interesting drive. @madziag was already on her way down the mountain and would not be able to return to clear any further links going up but was able to take that link out in Aviemore before going home! We had two choices, stop and put a blocking link in to restrict random blockers but give our location away or drive on and pray that we would get to the first portal before any more blockers went in! We drove and prayed for the next 20 minutes whilst @madziag kept @Jayno busy chatting and away from the scanner. We arrived in Fort William just after 7pm and as all other teams were ready to go we decided to get the party started, Rat Pack were given the go to clear links starting with Perth and ending up in Dundee. @madziag dropped the link from Aviemore and @Phaous shot a blocking link to stop any further links coming through. Now we had to wait for what seemed like an eternity for the remaining blocking links to be dropped, I’m sure it wasn’t that long but it certainly feels like an hour when you are sitting waiting to get into action!
The final portal was dead and links dropped, all link paths confirmed clear. Nothing left but to set those links flying! The first links went up on the Dundee field and within seconds Dundee was bathed in the green glow of Enlightenment! The first links from Fort William to Eyemouth and Stranraer ensured the paths would stay open closely followed by the first layer over Edinburgh and Glasgow! After moving to the second portal @Dreema quickly fired up the final 3 layers giving us 4 layers over Dundee, unfortunately @midgie was already on his way to Inverbervie to take them down. Now two layers up on the big field and we ran into some data issues requiring a phone restart, time was ticking down as we waited patiently on the agent getting connected again. Inverbervie under attack,@Gratex was recharging but to no avail the last field was dropped just 2 minutes before checkpoint which was disappointing but a quick response was expected from them. @RobAdair got re-connected and the next field made it just before checkpoint, 3 layers up and more to go! The time pressure was now off and the last 7 layers were up! A short wait for @RobAdair to arrive in Stonehouses to put the last fields up and we were done! 10 layers over Glasgow and Edinburgh with 4 layers over Dundee, not quite as much of a success as hoped for but none the less the fields went up and we all enjoyed taking part in the Operation!
Due to the new Illuminator badge being released only a few days before we had @Dreema and @RobAdair going straight to Platinum with @Phaous grabbing an Onyx for their participation.
Time for some food and relaxation, catch up on Comms and enjoy the fruits of our labour before the long drive back home hoping there wasn’t going to be too much more snow on the way back. The fields unfortunately did not manage to last until the next checkpoint as resistance agents took a late evening drive to Eyemouth and started to drop them just before checkpoint. Poor signal in the area meant they had to resort to using ADA’s in order to stop them hitting another checkpoint.
