INGRESS OPERATION: "GREEN DAY"
INGRESS OPERATION: "GREEN DAY"
I recently learned an interesting fact. Only a very small percentage of Ingress players have captured over one million MU. That struck a chord with me. Fielding has been such a natural part of my Ingress game play since I was Level 5. It requires the most team coordination but comes with the greatest rewards. Surely that statistic couldn’t be right. But a quick stats check of local players from both factions proved the rule: seven-figure MU stats are the minority.
It’s been awhile since LCENL has coordinated a large-scale field. As our anomaly team returned from victory in Austin, agent @quandonio realized we had an opportunity to collect keys for a plan he’d had sitting on the shelf for a while. Combined with Arizona and Ruidoso keys we’d been saving for a rainy day, we had the final pieces for a field set with potential to capture over one million MU per layer. Hmm… there’s that number again. Shortly thereafter Niantic announced the Illuminator badge, with a platinum level of, well wouldn’t you know: One million MU.
It doesn’t take a Shaper glyph sequence to realize it was time to build some fields.
We put the call out to anyone interested in green skies. We quickly built a coalition force comprised of agents from Las Cruces, El Paso, and Cd. Juarez. We would roll in three teams of two, with each agent getting to close one field. For agents @Aurket and @rfriar, this would be their first large field op. Initially, I was scheduled to operate the mission. However, agent @puxtoper and I decided to switch roles, allowing him his first mission from the operator chair. In exchange, I finally had the opportunity to close a seven-figure MU field myself, after helping facilitate gigafields for Helios, Darsana, and Shonin. In addition to the field team, we had agents assigned to blockers not on the travel paths, as well as two agents on stand-by to handle any surprises.
The op proved to be a fantastic training experience. Our new agents experienced several of the issues which can turn up in the field, including weak cell signal, tethering when one provider works but another doesn’t, key lag, locating portals in remote areas, accidentally sending a key with the wrong team… even being stopped by a train! Since we could only build L6 portals, we needed to deploy link amps to get the needed throw distance ( #HeExtends ), requiring us to ADA and rebuild a couple of our chosen anchors.
One thing we knew going into the mission, it would be difficult if not impossible to make the 10pm MST checkpoint. Real-life schedules necessitated a late start, and with several blockers anchored at portals off the beaten path, we’d be cutting in close. We threw the first field about 75 minutes late. A shame from the regional score perspective, but hey, there was always a chance for 3am. In the mean time, five of our six agents earned new “largest field” records, three earned their platinum Illuminator badge, and two gained a new level. Regional score or not, that’s a win in my book. Alas, a checkpoint was not to be this time. Top Resistance agents @zentradi and @SoulDagger2 raced out to Ruidoso and Van Horn respectively for a kill at 2:30a. Well done, gentlemen. Hopefully we’ll see you at El Paso’s first #IngressFS this weekend.
Until next time friends, Keep it Green. Unless you’re Resistance, in which case... well St. Patrick’s Day is coming up. I hear green beer is delicious.

UPDATE: Since the completion of this op, El Paso Enlightened have twice thrown layered fields worth 3 million total MU, both of which made checkpoint. 13 million MU captured within a 24-hour period? Stellar work, agents!
