Excellent Medal run!

Excellent Medal run!

OPinOPBUA

When Roy Hoenderboom  asked me whether I was available on May 15th I knew it was once again time for a spectacular OP. After reading through the plans he shared with me I realised that this would prove to be a good moment to try something else for me as well.

Along with the primary objective to secure a path for the massive OP in play, I planned an OP within the OP (aka OPinOPBUA).

As, thanks to a previous OP by Roy, my platinum Illuminator was not that far away I set out to plan for capturing the remainding MU required.

For quit some time ago I received sets of keys from two stategic portals in the vicinity of Winterswijk which are commonly ruled by RES. Starting with these keys I searched the intel for portals near the tunnel required for the OP and set up a complex link plan covering the complete region below Enschede towards Winterswijk (mostly multi-layered), strategically planning the portals to allow for a quick single person/car execution rather than having to clear a lot of links or having to coordinate with other agents.

Even though Roy initially asked me to cover a different part of the clearing necessary for the OP, he approved my plans since this would create a somewhat perfect diversion along with securing a large area.

After consulting with several agents in the region and driving a ‘test run’ while collecting the required keys, the initial plan required some changes to avoid unwanted side-effects along the way and still allow for the plan to come together. A local RES-agent, arend pinkster   was willing to come along for the test-run and would also join in the OP itself.

Another thing I realised at some weeks before the actual date, was that I could use this OP to create a medal spree; Illuminator (Platinum), Mind controller (Gold), Engineer (Silver) and Purifier (Silver) were all in reach. Granted that some took some additional preparation to create the spree rather than achieving them beforehand or not reaching them.

Carefully planned a total of 22 links from 9 consecutive portals (along with the two link-to portals) would create 17 fields, varying from only 275MU to 18950MU, for a total of over 80kMU.

After gaining my Platinum Illuminator the remainder links and fields were created by Arend. This helped him to reach his Silver Illuminator. At approximately 22:00 o’clock, six hours in with clearing and detours along the way, the OPinOPBUA was finished as planned.

The links and fields created in the subplan proved to be rather helpful in securing the area for the main OP even though @TheBestTestCase took down the primary anchor around 23:00. With this and the Illuminator medals gained it was already a very succesful evening.

To finish the spree I still needed to create some fields and destroy some resonators. On to Gronau, hometown of @Kr4zy, joining the primary OP. After securing the area we had to wait quit some time and went for something to eat and drink celebrating the successes.

Once the first field was in place we met up with some other smurfs nearby for a chat and congratulating eachother. After that we went to Oldenzaal to see how far along Roy and Petra were and received a little gift from them. As they both reached their Onyx Illuminator and more fields were left everyone there got to shoot some links. Eventually this lead to Arend reaching his Gold medal and me reaching my Onyx; though unplanned we are grateful!
