OPERATION: ELYSIUM
PERSEPOLIS ANOMALY SERIES - PORTLAND, OREGON
20 JUNE 2015
“Solemque suum, sua sidera norunt.” --Virgil’s Aeneid
(“And they know their own sun, their own stars.”)
“What a day! What a lovely day!” --Nux, Mad Max: Fury Road
From the moment it was announced that Portland would be the site of the Persepolis anomaly finale, Enlightened agents were committed to planning a field to cover all four measurements. The Oregon ENL team, already well-noted for their fielding prowess and track record of success in previous anomalies, were supported in this endeavor by agents across the entire Pacific Northwest and beyond.
Anomaly fields are exceptionally challenging operations, as the normal element of surprise is completely absent. When planning and executing this operation, the Enlightened fielding team was extremely aware that Resistance was anticipating an attempt at green skies, and that they knew its approximate location and time frame. We also had to consider the possibility that they would attempt their own field. The planning process took several weeks, during which very difficult decisions were made and re-made. How big should the field be? Where should it be anchored? Would we be able to fly it with the crew we assembled? Would it stand for long enough to cover all four measurements? What would we do if {XYZ} happened?
All these and more questions were asked, carefully considered, and ultimately answered by the ops team in the weeks leading up to the anomaly, much of it amidst a global-scale chess match waged over control of the Lightman shards. Enlightened agents involved in this field op found themselves embroiled in a chess match of their own over the entirety of the Pacific Northwest, as they cleared their blockers and prepared to throw from anchor sites in Washington and Oregon.
Elysium (“The Fields of the Blessed”) flew green skies over Portland shortly after 1:30pm, just as agents of both factions were departing Pioneer Square to begin the grand melee. When an outer anchor was taken at the Valhalla throw site, the Enlightened immediately coordinated with the ground ops teams to put alternate strategies into motion, as the fielding team executed their plans to put up an additional layer with an even more difficult anchor. Additionally, shortly before the final measurement, we were inconvenienced by the threat of a mysterious Level 4 RES agent at the lakefront wilderness anchor site of Arcadia, who appeared to be firing bursters but was nowhere to be seen. At the end of the day, Enlightened strategy won the day. Elysium stood for all four measurements and well into the night as agents celebrated their victories great and small.
FIELD STATS
Elysium’s largest layer just topped 1 million MU, with the inner layers coming in at approximately 800K, and stood for two checkpoints in addition to all four anomaly measurements. Agents @TheTriangulator and @MutagenXX received platinum and onyx Illuminator badges respectively from this epic field operation. Additionally agents @rockydream and @robjira received onyx and platinum Translator badges while in the field. Excellent work, agents!
RES agent @Homen ultimately took down the field late Saturday night, enabling agents of both factions to complete the NL1331 linking and fielding missions for badges of their own. Additionally, the Elysium team would like to extend a personal shout out to RES agent @MEHsr for putting up a good fight in the city of Chehalis. May we meet again!
