Pittsburgh scores big time!!!
Pittsburgh scores big time!!!

We had an unofficial mission day for Pittsburgh, PA, U.S., on June 20th when everyone was busy with Persepolise and sharing their MUFG screenshots. Starting at the point state park, a series of 18 missions tours agents around the Pittsburgh downtown area. After completing all the missions in order, agents will get a 3 by 6 panoramic picture of Pittsburgh in the mission badge collection.
>>A #MissionDay for #BadgeArt started by ourselves.
The idea of having a badge art for the entire Pittsburgh formed on April, schemed on May, and carried out June. Niantic don’t give us a mission day, so we make one:)
We put an "'YINZ'gress" in the picture because it is the most representative Pittsburghese and is an icon of the entire city. We sincerely hope every visiting agent can feel this enthusiasm from the city!
Although soaked in the heavy rain and got warned three times about the flood, we still made it to the end. People have good time, despite of the fact that we were all wet…
>> #MissionTips How we make it?
>step 1: Select a photo.
You cannot simply download a picture from the internet and claim it to be yours.
>step 2: Shard your picture.
Since we are having a mission day, we cannot make it too long to complete, otherwise the agents will just get bored and quit in the middle. After discussion, we believe that a 3 by 6 dimension is just suitable for our needs. We crop our photo to 1536*3072 pix, and cut it into 18 squares.
>Step 3: Assign missions to different authors.
we have eight authors, each of whom has different mission style. So our decision is to distribute mission authors evenly and randomly so that the agents won’t get bored by one specific mission style quickly…
>Step 4: Make missions.
Since the agents need to complete missions in order, it is generally a good approach to “connect” adjacent missions. We determine the routine of this mission tour first (like, starting point, end point, etc.) and divided it into 18 missions. At first some of us made hack-only missions that contain only six portals without proper descriptions… and got rejected by Niantic. At last we slightly evolved into two groups: hack-only but with nice custom descriptions, and passphrase-dominated missions. These two have bigger chance of approval in general.
>Step 5: Submit missions.
One of our missions got approved the day before mission day due to the frequent rejection. It got rejected three times, and at last we were forced to have four authors submit the same mission together to make sure one of them get approved on time. So don’t procrastinate. Do it early. The first group of missions were submitted more than two weeks before the mission day and we are still in a rush.
>Step 6: Propaganda.
Yes. Post the event somewhere, at least. This will also help with submit a SitRep to Niantic.
>Step 7: Organize the event.
Get equipped. Stay warm. Don’t be late. Oh and write a sitrep.
