Niko M has been trying to keep a blue field over Calvert Memorial Hospital since Tuesday night, but it keeps getting taken down. What follows is the story of how we tried to make layers in the shape of a heart over Calvert Memorial Hospital instead, and we did, and then those got taken down too.
Yesterday we decided to make some field art to honor one my favorite #Resistance agents -@Taterbug. Back when Nate M and I were Enlightened agents, we encountered @Taterbug for the first time via Comm while we were killing some of her portals and she told us we’d better stop or she would “mash us”. It was at that point that I decided she was my favorite agent/person/tater EVER and I tell her that every time I see her. As she’s currently in the abovementioned hospital, we decided a nice, blue heart to cover over her would let her know that the #SoMDResistance loves her and wishes her everything good in life. With that, Op TaterBugLove was born.
I sat down yesterday and did a little drawing, trying to figure out a way that we could make a heart incorporating St. Mary’s, Charles and Calvert counties – SoMD territory. After a couple of flawed draws, I figured out which portals we could use to make something that resembled a heart (a very blocky, angular heart). And, with few (but dedicated) agents to cover a large area, we decided to make use of some #SBULs to expedite fielding.
Shortly after getting the plan drawn up and the key list made, I had enlisted Arch Angel (@ArchAngel) and Tina Gass (@funtimecruisers) to farm the needed keys in St. Mary’s county and Solomon Carpenter (@MasterSolomon) to farm what keys were needed in Calvert. Nate M (@TotalDemolition) and I grabbed a couple keys to our anchor down south.
We met up for a quick key exchange and briefing on Sunday prior to the 3pm checkpoint that we had decided on Arch Angel (@ArchAngel) and Tina Gass (@funtimecruisers) after clearing a few friendly blockers in St. Mary’s county. A quick key exchange amongst good friends turned into an hour long key exchange that was incomplete. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize it was incomplete until everyone was in position…. So we missed checkpoint. We decided to soldier on though because these fields were about showing our #TaterBugLove rather than about a cycle score.
After a lot of driving, one flat tire (we’ll get you some fields next time, Kevin G. – PROMISE!), some signal issues, a certain mixture of fear, trepidation, and annoyance, and the most hilarious and ridiculous Zello log ever, we made our heart. And it was beautiful. In total, the op netted us just shy of 42K MU, but again, it was the message that counted.
The fields were comprised of four sets of layered fields, with agents at the anchors throwing to the spine portals. This gave the fields a stained glass quality, which we liked. Arch Angel (@ArchAngel) was at the Western anchor and threw links for two of the sets. Ben Dayley was positioned at the Eastern anchor to throw links assisting in the creation of the other two sets. One of our newer members, Tina Gass (@funtimecruisers) was located at the central anchor and responsible for closing up the northern two sets of fields. Nate M (@TotalDemolition) was positioned at the Southern anchor and prepped the southern two sets for fielding. They were taken down about 3 hours later by @JakBauer.
@Taterbug, if you get a chance to read this, just know that even though our fields are dead and our heart is “broken”, we still have much #TaterBugLove !
<3,
#SoMDResistance
Don Sasso I'd like to think so But he's been kind of busy so I hope they see the post.
ReplyDeletei guess my question would be: how many players are unable to link and field because of the heart?
ReplyDeleteShaun Snee don't be that guy.
ReplyDeleteNiko M my prayers have been and will continue to be with you and yours.
ReplyDeleteDon Sasso Alternate green and blue.
ReplyDeleteDon Sasso yes Shaun Snee 4 can't link, 1 can't field.
ReplyDeleteEveryone. Thank you. Seriously. Thank you.
Shaun Snee, this mostly covers water and territory usually held by the #SoMDResistance. Only one #Enlightened agent regularly plays under where these fields were and this was the person that kept taking down the small field that Niko M was trying to keep up over the hospital previously.
ReplyDeleteDon Sasso She's aware.
ReplyDeleteTo dig a little further, she wasn't previously aware but is now and offered to protect it any way she can.
ReplyDeleteWhy not make the heart, screen cap for the agent and then just keep a small field up over the hospital so it fills the agent's scanner when/if she opens it.
ReplyDeleteAsking opposition agents to ignore 42k worth of mu for days on end and for some of them not to be able to play properly seems a bit much.
Debbie A if you read the whole thing you can see that they tried it but the field kept getting torn down.
ReplyDeleteI did read the whole thing. I saw a screen shot of the heart so the field did go up at least long enough to get the screen shot.
ReplyDeleteI did not read anything about trying to maintain just a small field over the hospital. Please quote the parts I missed because I just read it again and it still seems like they are trying to maintain 42k of fields.
Oops, just re-read again. Now I see. IMO, the best way to keep a field up is to organize a quid pro quo with the EN agents in the area for an equivalent amount of mu. Not sure if that was tried . . .
ReplyDeleteYeah it seems they have spoken with the ENL agent who keeps taking it down and she said she won't anymore. Hope Tater feels better soon
ReplyDeleteClarification: None of us expected the heart to stay up even for a night, let alone for the length of the hospital stay. It's always great to have active opposition agents in your AO. The point of my original post was just to say "Look! We did a thing and it was fun!" - not to complain that our fields got taken down. I feel as though people are getting caught up in semantics here.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful story, I hope it can stay up...
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see your story on my Ingress report today! What you are trying to do for TaterBug is awesome. I hope she has a swift recovery!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bridgette Stine! We were excited to see it too! #TaterBugLove is storming the nation! ;D
